I didn’t expect to cry, or to underline so many passages in a book that’s supposed to be YA. But there’s something about the way Nayampalli writes. Nepal doesn’t feel like an ordinary location, it feels alive. The story pulled me in slowly, then all at once. It’s about family and legacy, but also about what it means to be chosen, and what that really costs. I’m still thinking about it.

I actually love this book. Normally whenever I ride the bus to and from work, I read comics on my phone. But this book has been a great replacement. It’s easy to read. I can pick up right where I left off without re-reading anything. And I absolutely adore the characters and their individual personalities. I would definitely consider this book to be one of my favorite fiction novels and I am not even done reading it.

The jungle part gave me chills. When the tiger showed up, I literally held my breath. It felt so real—like I was right there with them, trying not to move. I’ve never read anything that made the forest feel alive like that. Honestly, it’s the kind of scene you don’t forget.
