Tales & Reflections

Kathmandu to Phakding. A Journey to the Heart of Kumari: Everest Base Camp Trek – Part One.

Welcome to Part 1 of my Everest Base Camp Trek! This adventure takes us from the bustling streets of Kathmandu to the serene trails of Phakding. Experience the thrilling Lukla flight, breathtaking suspension bridges, and stunning views of the Dudh Koshi River as we take the first steps on this unforgettable Himalayan journey. As an author, this trek is part of my research for my book, A Journey to the Heart of Kumari. While my characters take on a tougher, more remote base camp, I wanted to experience the beauty and challenges of trekking firsthand to bring realism to my story. What to expect in this video: Exploring Kathmandu and gearing up for the trek Flying into Lukla, one of the world’s most exciting airports Trekking from Lukla to Phakding: Suspension bridges, yaks, and incredible scenery My thoughts on how this journey inspires my writing Follow along as I combine adventure and storytelling in the heart of the Himalayas. Day 2: Stairs, Suspended Bridges & Second Thoughts

Today’s journey took us from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, and let’s just say—it was a battle of endurance, suspension bridges, and oxygen levels. 🌬️ We crossed the Hillary Bridge (did we bungee jump? You’ll have to guess 😉), counted more trail dogs 🐕, and took in some of the most breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
But the real challenge? The infamous final climb to Namche. Switchbacks, thinning air, and legs that seriously questioned our life choices. 😅
Did we make it? You’ll have to watch the next video as we tackle the steep ascent to Namche Bazaar!

Day Three Ascent to Namche Bazaar - Into the Heart of the Himalayas

Today, we face a tough decision—do we bungee jump off the iconic Hillary Bridge? You’ll have to watch to find out! After crossing the bridge and snapping some photos with my banner, we begin the grueling ascent to Namche Bazaar. This climb may be less than 2.5 miles (4 km), but don’t let the distance fool you—it’s a relentless 1,650-foot (505 m) elevation gain through steep switchbacks and thinning air. What should take around two hours ends up taking us four as we battle fatigue and altitude. Was it worth it? Absolutely. The views are unreal, and the sense of accomplishment? Even better. Join us on this epic journey, and stay tuned—next episode, we finally enter Namche

After the Brutal Climb to Namche Bazaar: Following My Characters. EBC Trek. Nepal Diaries

We just reached the teahouse in Namche Bazaar after a brutal 5+ hour climb from Jorsalle. We started around 7 a.m., crossed iconic suspension bridges, and pushed through steep switchbacks at high altitude to get here. Now—tired, breathless, and completely in awe—we’re resting and preparing to acclimatize. Tomorrow, we trek to the Everest View Hotel and visit the Sherpa Museum. This isn’t just a physical journey. It’s part of my author’s pilgrimage—filmed on location in Nepal as I walk in the footsteps of my characters from A Journey to the Heart of Kumari.

Wandering Through Tengboche. Nepal Diaries. December 2024 Everest Base Camp Trek.

Today we’re resting at Tengboche, one of the most sacred stops on the way to Everest Base Camp. I take a quick walk from our table at the teahouse to explore the famous Tengboche Monastery, admire the Himalayan giants (Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse), and reflect on elevation, prayer stones, and scratched-out trail signs. We’ve climbed nearly 600 meters (1,970 feet) this morning to reach 3,860 meters above sea level—and it shows. From 5G towers to sacred stupas, it’s a place where the ancient and modern collide… beautifully.

📖 A Journey to the Heart of Kumari is inspired by these very paths—walk in the footsteps of my characters through Nepal’s mystical trails.
